The Sensors and SONAR Systems Department, Code 15, of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport is responsible for full spectrum engineering, development and research pertaining to Sensors, SONAR and Undersea Warfare. Platforms include submarines, surface ships, surveillance, and distributed networks. Code 15 requires contract services to support Business Operations across the department including Data Center, Property Management, Information Technology & Cybersecurity, Financial Analysis and Project Management. Code 15 serves as the Navy’s Technical Direction Agent (TDA) and In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) for surface, submarine, and undersea SONAR systems. Code 15 supports NAVSEA sponsors through a variety of technical programs including AN/BQQ-10, AN/SQQ-89, Maritime Surveillance Systems, Towed Systems, Advanced Development and Science and Technology (S&T).

 

INDUS is seeking a Technical Writer III to support on the Code 15 Business Operations Support Services contract. This position is located in Newport, RI.  

What You'll Do

  • Monitor and research changes in business methods, technology and Government policy affecting undersea warfare.
  • Support the Strategic Planning Office in analyzing the data to evaluate impacts to the DoN’s USW capabilities.
  • Support development of a bi-annual External Scan, which comprises an analysis and assessment of the Division’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats as they pertain to changes in the USW environment; conducts Government directed research and provides an analysis of the information to determine the solutions to operational issues or to identify trends related to USW.
  • Maintain configuration management of the NUWCDIVNPT strategic guidance intranet site (on SharePoint) with the most recent higher-level DoD and DoN guidance documents, as provided by the government.
  • Provide recommendations for updates to the government for the strategic guidance intranet site based upon the recurring monitoring and research that the contractor performs throughout the fiscal year as identified above.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of the Division’s strategic goals, priorities, and strategic messaging objectives.
  • Support the Strategic Planning Office with implementation of Division Newport strategic plan.
  • Facilitate government directed discussions across functional and/or organizational lines to ensure awareness of department technical and business activities, translates the information effectively into articles of interest for government review/approval for dissemination through Division communication vehicles (e.g., Newportal articles, Annual Overview articles, Live stream highlights).
  • Support activities that promote the sharing of knowledge across the workforce.
  • Support the Divisions Annual Business Planning process.
  • Maintain an awareness of department initiatives and facilitates the development of government directed articles highlighting Division accomplishments.
  • Use advanced technical, editorial, and strategic communication skills applied towards the development of materials for use with a wide range of internal audiences (e.g., Division strategic communications plan, Division Annual Overview, Economic Impact report, newsletters, workforce posters, Division presentations for external visitors, Division CONOPS, Division External Scan, Division Annual Business Plans).
  • Research and develop written and visual products that highlight Division accomplishments.
  • Assess the adequacy of subject matter information and visual material available and identifies sources needed to develop interactive visual products as appropriate.
  • Bid and proposal support if requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • An active secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university required.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience. 
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
  • Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
  • Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time. Must also be able to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking. 
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
