The Team and the Role

INDUS is a 100% employee-owned, customer-focused government services provider with expertise in Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Program/Financial Management, Logistics, and Data Analytics. At INDUS, we believe in the value of the INDUS team. Together we deliver exceptional customer service, foster a growth and support-centered work environment, and focus on how we can give back to the communities that we serve. Empowering our employees starts on day one and creates an environment full of innovation and promise. By offering mentorship and robust Training and Development opportunities, INDUS continues its pursuit to be the Employer of Choice.

INDUS provides industrial support services across the Undersea Weapons Department (Code 30), Test and Evaluation Department (Code 20), Undersea Systems & Sustainment Department (Code 40) and Unmanned and Theater Undersea Warfare Systems Department (Code 50), of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division, Keyport (NUWCDIVKPT). Requirements include providing technical support services associated with various industrial operations, depot repair activities, and torpedo intermediate maintenance functions.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the CNC Machinist performs machining and CNC programming, operating, and set up activities supporting HAAS CNC equipment in a classified setting on the NUWCDIVKPT Industrial Support Services (ISS) contract. This requires self-starting, continual learning, and flexibility across multiple systems. This position is located in Keyport, WA.

What You'll Do

  • Perform manual machining operations (approximately 30% of duties), including setup and operation of conventional machine tools, in support of Code 31 DEPOT and Code 42 functions.
  • Program, set up, and operate CNC machines—primarily HAAS systems—to fabricate precision components in support of Code 42 operations (approximately 70% of duties).
  • Collaborate effectively with machinists, engineers, and other team members to resolve technical issues and ensure production accuracy and efficiency.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality workmanship in all machining tasks.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions to ensure proper setup and machining processes.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment in accordance with company and industry standards.
  • Bid and proposal support if requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
  • HS Diploma required.
  • At least five (5) years of hands-on machine operation experience.
  • At least one (1) year of MasterCAM Software experience.
  • Must possess basic Understanding of Manual Machining Processes.
  • Blueprint Reading and GD&T: The ability to interpret technical drawings, including Geometric
Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) symbols, is essential for programming accurate tool paths.
  • Math Skills: Proficiency in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry is necessary for calculating coordinates, tool paths, and machining parameters.
  • G-Code Programming: HAAS machines primarily use G-code, the standard CNC programming language.
  • While manual G-code programming is less common today, understanding it is valuable for
    troubleshooting and making on-the-fly adjustments.
  • Conversational Programming: HAAS machines, especially models like the TM Series, feature the Haas Intuitive Programming System (IPS) or Visual Quick Code, which allows operators to create programs without deep G-code knowledge. Familiarity with these systems is a plus for beginners.
  • CAM Software proficiency
  • Setup and Troubleshooting: Knowledge of setting up workholding, tool offsets, and probing (e.g., using HAAS’s Wireless Intuitive Probing System) of 2, 3 and 5 axis mill/lathe experience.
  • Material and Tooling Knowledge: Understanding how to select cutting tools and machining parameters for different materials (e.g., metals, plastics)
  • Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
  • Your ability to receive medical certification (if required).
  • Your ability to obtain and maintain any appropriate licenses and certifications (if required).
  • Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time. Must also be able to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking.
  • The ability to lift items that may weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing such as performing regular shop activities, inspections, or to observe and study operations in an industrial or comparable work area or on-board submarines and in weapon facilities.
  • The ability to operate heavy machinery and industrial tools with limited to no supervision. Examples may include but are not limited to: Electric/Disel Forklift, CNC Milling Machine, Welding/Soldering, CAT III Overhead Crane, pallet jack, "Big Joe" stand-behind pallet lift mechanism, and more.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Desired Qualifications:

  •  HAAS Control Interface experience
  •  HAAS CNC Certification
