Reporting to the Program Manager, the Systems Administrator will provide comprehensive Systems Administration and technical support of NUWC Newport Code 25 Advanced Interactive Management Technology Center (AIMTC) systems, network, workstations, support equipment hardware and software.. This is a contingent position expected to be located in Newport, RI.

What You'll Do

  • Perform routine system updates, patches, and configuration changes to ensure the security and integrity of the systems, which shall be completed as dictated by the severity of the vulnerability
    based on vulnerability reports provided from scanning tools.
  • Create, modify, and deactivate user accounts and permissions as necessary to maintain access control and ensure that all user accounts are properly managed and authorized, upon notification of a personnel change.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system operations for systems every 4 hours.
  • Upon notification of an outage, automated monitoring services, or notification from customers, immediately monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize systems.
  • Implement and maintain backup and recovery procedures to prevent data loss and ensure business continuity.
  • Enforce security policies, monitor security breaches, and respond to incidents in accordance with defined best practices and DoD policies.
  • Conduct cyber analysis and make recommendations on cyber tools, processes, and procedures to enhance the security of individual platforms, systems, or networks.
  • Implement security settings and resolve any hardware and software interface and interoperability issues that occur during the implementation in accordance with defined best practices and DoD policies.
  • Install and integrate updates, fixes, and enhancements of operating systems, databases, and application software, as updates become available from manufacturers.
  • Manage system assets to ensure performance, capacity, and availability for systems.
  • Document systems administration and technical support for establishment, test, upgrade, and operational support of systems, network, workstations, and support equipment hardware and software.
  • Provide recommendations for systems administration and technical support for establishment, test, upgrade, and operational support of systems, network, workstations, and support equipment hardware and software.
  • Install, configure, and maintain web servers using Internet Information Services (IIS) or Apache, upon receipt of webserver change request.
  • Bid and proposal support if requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • An active secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
  • HS Diploma required.
  • Must possess an IAT Level II certification per the DoD 8570 requirements (one of the following):
    • CompTIA CySA+
    • CompTIA Security+
    • CCNA Security
    • GICSP
    • GSEC
    • SSCP
  • At least five (5) years of experience as a system administrator in a cloud environment.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in installing and configuring web servers.
  • At least one (1) year of experience with PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) implementation and best practices.
  • Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Desired Qualifications:

  • At least one (1) year of experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time. Must also be able to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking. 
  • The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing such as performing regular shop activities, inspections, or to observe and study operations in an industrial or comparable work area, or on-board ships, submarines, and/or in weapon facilities.
