Reporting to the Program Manager, the HVAC/R Technician, will install, operate, repair, troubleshoot, and accomplish preventive maintenance on small and large refrigeration, air conditioning (A/C) units. The position requires a detail-oriented professional with hands-on experience in electronics maintenance, system troubleshooting, and compliance with safety and environmental standards.

 

This is a contingent position expected to be located in Hawthorne, NV. The pay range for the position will be provided at the time the position is no longer contingent.

What You'll Do

  • Install, service and repair environmental-control system, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, soldering, braising and structural layout. 

  • Recommends solutions to problems in design and fit during installation and repair of HVAC systems, using three phase industrial power; performs field fit work when approved by the customer.

  • Mount compressor and condenser units on designated platforms using hand tools following blueprints or engineering specifications.

  • Perform troubleshooting and repair/replacement of motors and motor controls.

  • Be able to work safely with systems operating at 480 volts. 

  • Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees.

  • Perform maintenance and repair of HVAC/R equipment for commercial and residential applications including commercial refrigeration equipment.

  • Ability to repair high- and low-pressure steam boilers, hot water boilers and all related equipment.

  • Shall operate a comprehensive Refrigerant Recovery Program to ensure the proper handling, containment, and management of refrigerants in compliance with all relevant environmental regulations and best practices.

  • Perform all work in compliance with environmental permits and regulations.

  • May be required to work overtime or varying hours to include shift work.

  • May be required to be on call and respond to callouts within 30 minutes.

  • Be at work when scheduled and maintain a good attendance record.

  • Work near and or in an ammunition/chemical demilitarization facility.

  • Must be willing to adapt to rapidly changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • Must also be able to obtain and maintain an active secret security clearance.
  • Five (5) years of experience as an HVAC/R Technician.
  • HVAC/R Trade certification required or proof of competency through certifications, letters of recommendation from previous employers, apprenticeship programs, etc.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
  • Must be willing and able to work in an environmental and safety compliant environment.
  • Must be computer literate in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State of Nevada driver’s license.
  • Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time. Must also be able to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking. 
  • The ability to lift items that may weigh up to 50 pounds. 
  • The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing such as performing regular shop activities, inspections, or to observe and study operations in an industrial or comparable work area, or on-board ships, submarines, and/or in weapon facilities.
  • The ability to operate heavy machinery and industrial tools with limited to no supervision. Examples may include but are not limited to: Electric/Diesel Forklift, CNC Milling Machine, Welding/Soldering, CAT III Overhead Crane, pallet jack, "Big Joe" stand-behind pallet lift mechanism, and more.
