INDUS supports the planning, coordination, and installation activities of Combat System and Command, Control, Communications, Computer, and Intelligence (C5I) Systems in aircraft carriers, and other strike group or strike force units (including but not limited to LHA, LHD, LPD, and other L-Class units). Our team is directly responsible for supporting the planning, budgeting, and execution of New Construction (SCN) testing and modernization efforts in support of the Modernization and Installation Department (N Department), Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Port Hueneme Division (PHD).

 

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Unmanned Combat Systems Project Engineer, Perform as a Combat Systems Project Engineer (CSPE) for Combat System C4I & Combat Systems (CS) for Unmanned Vessels (USV). Act as the central point of contact for C4I & CS modernization, maintenance, repair, and testing efforts during planning and execution phases. Communicate with PEO Integrated Warfare Systems (IWS), PEO Robotic and Autonomous Systems (RAS), PMS 420, PMS 406, NSWC PHD, other NAVSEA Warfare Centers, and Industry representatives to ensure mutual understanding of individual activity requirements, scheduling coordination, and status of installation, modernization, testing and repair efforts via weekly reporting or direct contact to communicate details of emergent or time sensitive issues. on the CVN/L-Class Support Services contract. This position is located in San Diego, CA.

What You'll Do

 

  • Coordinate and advise on-site government and Industry Subject Matter Expert team efforts during construction, modernization, installation availabilities and test & evaluation (T&E) events.
  • Ensure installations and upgrades are installed according to applicable standards, policies, and instructions, in accordance with applicable drawings and designs and reflecting planned baseline configurations.
  • Interpret ship drawings during the planning phase to verify intended space layout accounts for existing installed equipment and provide feedback to the installation activity as required. Refer to ship drawings during the execution phase to ensure equipment installation conforms to space lay out requirements.
  • Assess and report status of the installation, modernization, repair, and test progress of equipment associated with vessels undergoing availability. Review Alteration Installation Team (AIT) installation and test packages to include test plan review to ensure effectiveness to meet objectives and identification of required number of personnel to support testing.
  • As needed, coordinate with NSWC PHD and Program Office POC.
  • Coordinate required at-sea test planning to ensure problem identification and resolution in order to meet underway requirements. Advise availability team of any issues that may impact accomplishment of installations, production work, or test objectives.
  • Coordinate with test and installation teams, shipyard, shipyard management team, vessel, and maintenance team to communicate and meet the requirements (support services, range, crew, full-service contractor assistance, space, test equipment, calibrations, HM&E requirements, etc.) for testing. Address issues to the availability team and resolve them.
  • Perform technical review of availability planning materials, availability execution processes (including for any assigned new construction events), and supporting technical documentation and report any discrepancies found.
  • Provide timely on-site and distance-support technical expertise to resolve issues impacting the successful completion of the T&E, modernization, installation, and repair events. Actively contribute to the associated sub-processes and meetings.
  • Identify, track, and resolve Combat System (CS) and Modular Systems certification requirements and issues.
  • Provide comprehensive weekly status reports (progress availability CS testing and installation status, schedules, issues, risk evaluations and provide various Courses of Action).
  • Provide inputs to PHD NSWC N60 Division metrics, lessons learned, process improvements, Standard Operating Processes (SOPs) and instructions.
  • Coordinate and advise on-site government during Test and Evaluation Events.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • At least five (5) years systems engineering/combat systems integration experience OR a minimum of 10 years technical experience showing progressive advancement of roles/responsibilities.
  • Must have experience with standard Combat Systems Engineering principles, theories, concepts, techniques, and systems integration aboard U.S. Navy Ships.
  • Knowledge and experience in employment, modernization, and development of Robotic and Autonomous Systems, Unmanned Vehicles and Modular Systems.
  • Travel Required: ~20% travel required to support test demonstrations (in port and underway)
  • Other duties as assigned and/or proposal development support.
  • Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or a related technical field. Additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • Any degree in robotics and/or autonomy systems.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time. Must also be able to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking. 
  • The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing such as performing regular shop activities, inspections, or to observe and study operations in an industrial or comparable work area, or on-board ships, submarines, and/or in weapon facilities. 

 

INDUS aims to provide a competitive compensation package, including a strong pay for performance rewards approach. The expected base pay range for this position is $80,000 – $120,000. This position is eligible to participate in our corporate 401(k) and Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) programs, and may be eligible for performance bonuses, and other rewards and benefits (see more about our compensation package and benefits offered at Culture @ INDUS | INDUS Technology). The pay range for this role considers job-related knowledge, skills, work location, education and training, and certifications.
