Reporting to the Program Manager, the Technical Advisor leads shipboard operations and maintenance for SURTASS mission equipment, supervising O&M technicians, troubleshooting and repairing systems, managing logistics, and ensuring compliance with Navy maintenance and reporting standards. Operating aboard SURTASS vessels during extended deployments, the role maximizes system readiness, supports Fleet commanders, and ensures self-sufficient, continuous maritime surveillance operation.

 

This is a contingent position. Qualified applicants may work from anywhere within the continental United States. However, candidates must be able to travel and participate in extended underway periods of up to 180 days as required.

 

The pay range for the position will be provided at the time the position is no longer contingent. 

What You'll Do

  • Supervise and coordinate all shipboard operations and maintenance requirements.

  • Manage the performance of a crew of Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Technicians.

  • Serve as the senior contractor onboard, supporting the Integrated Operational Support Contractor (IOSC) and other contractor personnel.

  • Stand watch in the SURTASS Operations Center (SOC) to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair SURTASS mission equipment in support of Fleet requirements.

  • Maintain all required logs, records, and Naval Message Traffic.

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all SURTASS mission equipment in accordance with the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and other reference documents; maintain accurate maintenance records per Navy standards.

  • Use the WILD trouble ticket system to log all maintenance actions, including labor, parts, and external technical assistance.

  • Maintain an accurate logistics inventory and provide periodic updates to the Product Support Facility (PSF); ensure inventory compliance within specified thresholds.

  • Operate and manage the shipboard test equipment pool, ensuring calibration and maintenance coordination with the PSF.

  • Maintain a technical library onboard to support SURTASS mission equipment.

  • Submit all required reports in accordance with the Statement of Work (SOW), SURTASS Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and other directives.

  • Travel and participate in extended underway periods of up to 180 days as required.

  • Bid and proposal support if requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • An active secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
  • Associate's degree from an accredited university required OR must be a graduate from U.S. Navy electronics “C” school or an equivalent civilian electronics technical school. Curriculum must include direct experience with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of VME computers, digital computers, microprocessors or peripheral/interface equipment, networks, communications systems, navigation systems, and/or sonar systems.
  • At least four (4) years of hands-on experience in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of secure networks, communications systems, navigation systems, and sonar systems (experience with SURTASS mission systems is highly desired).
  • At least five (5) years of experience managing personnel. 
  • Certifications
    • Must obtain a DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification within 12 months of hire (CompTIA Security +, etc.)
  • Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
  • Travel Required ~50% travel required. This role requires the ability to support extended underway periods of up to 180 days as required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time. Must also be able to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking
  • The ability to lift items that may weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • May be subject to pre-hire and/or random drug testing.
  • The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing such as performing regular shop activities, inspections, or to observe and study operations in an industrial or comparable work area, or on-board ships, submarines, and/or in weapon facilities.
