Reporting to the Program Manager, the Field Technician on-demand, mobile, and active/passive maritime surveillance in support of Joint and Naval Task Force commanders via towed acoustic sensor systems. Operating aboard SURTASS vessels during extended deployments, the role maximizes system readiness, supports Fleet commanders, and ensures self-sufficient, continuous maritime surveillance operation.
This is a contingent position. Qualified applicants may work from anywhere within the continental United States. However, candidates must be able to travel and participate in extended underway periods of up to 180 days as required.
The pay range for the position will be provided at the time the position is no longer contingent.
Stand watch in the SURTASS Operations Center (SOC) onboard SURTASS vessels to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mission equipment, including maintaining records, logs, and monitoring Naval Message Traffic.
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all SURTASS mission equipment following the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and reference documents, maintaining records per OPNAVINST 4790.
Use the WILD trouble ticket application to log maintenance issues, including labor, technical assistance, parts, and time expended, for action in the JSN/WKRQ log.
Maintain an accurate logistics inventory as provided by the Government and provide periodic updates to the Product Support Facility (PSF); deviations beyond 5% of consumables or 2% of repair parts may result in financial responsibility.
Operate the shipboard test equipment pool, ensuring calibration through coordination with the PSF; the Government handles repair, calibration, and replacement of test equipment.
Maintain a technical library onboard each ship to support all SURTASS mission equipment.
Travel and participate in extended underway periods of up to 180 days as required.
